Intro to Skin and Nutrition

Good Day Y’all!

I’m so excited to be joining the Skinizer Team and bringing you the keys to a successfully balanced life!

As an adolescent, I struggled with my skin….acne prone and large pores.

Every miracle skincare product I could find was used to no effect.

Visiting the dermatologist to try new oral medications and lotions became a monthly occurrence in high school.

However, everything I was prescribed only served to dry out my skin terribly and did nothing to improve the overall look of my completion.

Yeah, my acne may have been less, but now I was plagued with white flaking skin falling off my face all day.

Not to mention the discomfort and irritation to my skin all these products created.

They may have worked temporarily to clear my acne and dry out my face but once stopped, the acne would slowly return one pimple at a time.

You know, what…. not once in all of my doctor’s visits did anyone suggest I try changing the way I was eating!

They just switched one cream and one pill for another.

As I have gone through my journey to better nutrition and a healthier lifestyle, I have noticed the quality of my skin has improved drastically.

Although some of this may be due to aging and decreased hormones after puberty, I like to think it’s a result of the balanced lifestyle I have tried to create.

For this first post I want to focus on some general nutrition and lifestyle tips to get you started on your better skin care path!

Over my next few posts, I will discuss these topics in more detail and explain the science behind each.

Stay Hydrated

Proper hydration helps to keep your skin looking tight and glowy.

We consume water from beverages and foods we eat. The exact amount of water you need varies from one person to another.

To find out more on how much water you should be consuming, read this article from The Mayo Clinic.

I recommend purchasing a reusable water bottle that holds at least 500ml. Carry this with you throughout the day and sip on it occasionally.

Aim to drink 2-3 bottles of water per day, depending on the size of your bottle.

If you are active, or during periods of warm weather, you may need to drink more than usual.

Eat an Adequate Amount of Protein!

Protein aids in maintaining elasticity and avoiding wrinkly, sagging skin.

Our skin contains two protein fibers, collagen that provides structure, and elastin that is responsible for keeping your skin tight.

Keeping sufficient protein stores enables your body to maintain the integrity of these fiber.

Aim for about 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of your body weight each day.

For more information on recommended daily intakes of macro and micro nutrients, check out The National Institutes for Health’s Dietary Reference Intakes.

Eat More Fruits and Vegetables!

Fruits and veggies are naturally high in anti-oxidants which may help improve the look of your skin.

Antioxidants are vitamins, minerals, and other phytochemicals that reduce the “free radicals in your body”.

Free radicals are potentially harmful compounds that can cause mutations in your cells.

Aim for at least 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables per day!

See The National Institutes for Health’s Dietary Reference Intakes for recommendations on daily intake of each anti-oxidant.

Don't Smoke...

Speaking of Free Radicals, Cigarette Smoking increases carcinogens and free radicals in your body and can have a dramatic effect on the look of your skin. Additionally, Cigarette smoking is linked to the development of cancer, heart disease, lung disease, and so many more illness (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015) It’s not worth it!

Did you know?…. The skin is an organ and is often used by clinicians to assess hydration status (Rushing 2009)?!

Stay tuned for my next post where I will drive more into the relationship between proper hydration and your skin!

Moist and easy to apply

The containers are much smaller than presented but very moist and natural when applied. Easy to apply and feels good on the skin. Service and delivery were fast and accurate.

I really like it, I just wish it was a bigger size

Perfect trio

Glides on and becomes one with your skin....as opposed to sitting on top.
Lovely creamy texture that has a powder finish.
Universal shades that are multi purpose.
The only 3 sticks you will need in you purse. Super simple.. I love these.

Fantastic!

I have used the serum for a year now and I will continue doing so. I always put it on my face after I shave my beard. I no longer put on aftershave or anything with alcohol on it. The serum is quick to absorb and has a lot of vitamins that are good for my skin. My face looks young for my age and I often get that comment from people. I recommend this amazing product to anyone.

Love it!

Absolutely love this 3 in 1 compact stick for daily use I can bring with me anywhere! Suits my skintone in different shades for different seasons
